Fillings

Lougheed/Burquitlam Dental Centre offers both tooth-colored (composite) and metal (amalgam) fillings. Using both types of fillings gives our patients the option of a less expensive choice with the metal fillings. Some patients prefer the white fillings because of their cosmetic appearance. There are some situations where one type of filling material is preferable over the other and Dr.Grace Chun will advise you on which material is best for you. White fillings are more ideal in most cases especially in small cavities whereas cavities which are extensive and cannot be isolated below the gumline will have a more predictable result with a metal filling.

crowns

In some cases, where there is insufficient tooth structure remaining to support a filling, a full coverage restoration in the form of a crown is required. A crown protects the tooth with 360 degrees of coverage to withstand forces generated with normal function. Crowns are constructed of either all porcelain, all gold or a combination of the two and are made to look just like your natural teeth.

Bridges

In instances where an implant is not possible, a bridge can be constructed to replace a missing tooth to restore esthetics and function. A bridge is one unit by joining crowns on each side of the missing tooth. The bridge will reproduce the proper form and function of the missing tooth and visaully it will appear as if the tooth is not missing at all. A strict regimen of brushing and flossing will keep the bridge and surrounding teeth clean. Good dental care of these teeth is critically important, as the bridge relies on the neighbouring teeth for support.

Veneers

A veneer is an excellent option to restore a tooth when only the front part of the tooth need to be fixed because of the minimally invasive dentistry required. The result is a preparation the removes little of no healthy tooth structure. A veneer is a ceramic material the covers only the front part of your tooth so we can create a beautiful smile in a short amount of time. We are able to achieve ideal esthetics while preserving healthy tooth structure to ensure long-term health.
